Zimbabwe is rich in a variety of stones including serpentine, butter jade, verdite, leopard rock, springstone etc. This expressive form of art has grown in leaps & bounds since 1980. Initially introduced around 1956 by Frank McEwen who was then the Director of The National Gallery of Rhodesia a lot of progress has been made in Zimbabwe. Despite the challenges faced in the country this beautiful art has seen the artistically talented men perfect the art & also able to support their families by playing with stone & producing masterpieces.
