Description: An antique gold filled bracelet with a central etched oval Intaglio featuring the head of Hermès. The bracelet was made by the Simmons Company. The intaglio is carved into an oval dark maroon/brown glass (simulated - glass made to look like Carnelian) & has applied gold in the engraved sections of the Hermes bust to highlight the image. Hermès is the god in Ancient Greek mythology. He is considered the herald of the gods & the protector of travelers, merchants & orators. NOTE: The Simmons Company operated out of Attleboro MA from 1873 to about 1950. The oval shaped piece - glass made to look like Carnelian - is in the center of this gold filled hinged bangle bracelet. It has lovely applied rope open designs. The closure is made of two small ends that fit into the tube opening on the opposite side. There is also a tiny fold over closure piece & a safety chain. The bracelet is circa early 1900s. Measurements: The bracelet, a slight oval in shape, measures 2 1/2" x 2" inner circumference is approximately 7" Weight: 17.8 grams Condition: This bracelet is in nice vintage condition with wear commensurate with antique age. Some wear to the gold fill in various places where the base metal can be seen. See photos for detail. Markings: SImmONS hallmark on the inside of one of the round back bands across from the oval etched Hermes piece.
