Description

This beautiful antique painting appears to be a Mediterranean or Italian figure considering the style of dress. It is from the 1860-1890s & does show its age, but still a beautiful painting. The woman wears a flowing tunic dress & carries a vessel on her shoulder. There is a wall behind her with roses cascading over the top. It reminds me of Maxfield Parrish or Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. It was a very popular style at that time. The frame is wood with a gilt finish. The painting does need cleaning which is something I know nothing of so didn't attempt. There are some drips of something on the painting, some are white & some are black. They appear to be on top of the paint. Painted on a canvas board, the label on the back reads: Academy Board, Manufactured for Favor, Ruhl & Co., Artists' Materials & Stationery Specialities, New York, Boston Chicago. Favor Ruhl was an artist supply store. I did not find a signature. Measures 18 3/8" x 12 1/2" with frame & the painting is 16" x 10".
