Painted in the second half of the 19th century by skilled professional painter. Signed indistinctly...possibly the British painter William Robert Houghton (1826-1897). He liked to paint rocky landscapes. At verso, but also indistinct, however one may read British name of the place. Beautiful atmospheric painting with a small village located in a mountain gorge. Perspective, soft harmonious colors & fine details are impressive. Size app.: 41 x 61.2 cm (roughly 16 x 24.2 in) & very good antique golden gesso frame is 62.3 x 81.2 cm (roughly 24.6 x 32 in). Very Good condition, tiny craquelure, wear to frame.
