This is an Istanbul Kandilli block print & painted quilt from the early 20th century or possibly earlier. Many of the design elements are painted in & demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship. Kandilli was & is a neighborhood of Istanbul that was in the past known for making very fine painted & block printed textiles. Pieces of this quality are rare. It displays an exceptional array & quality of colors. The inner stuffing is cotton. The backing is more recently added.
