This California Gold Rush Token was made from 1880 - 1910. in 1880 Congress passed a law prohibiting California gold coins from being minted. To get around the new law private companies & jewelers began minting California gold "tokens" without denominations. The new tokens were minted with various dates to represent the dates of the California gold rush.These tokens/charms are quite small varying from 10-13 mm across, with 25 cent versions running toward the smaller end & 50 cent versions running toward the larger end.
