I've had lovely water lilies such as this one for over 20+ years. They are very easy & hardy growers! When planting them, use your pot & fill with a heavy clay type dirt (the heavier the better; you don't want floating). After planting the tuber in said dirt & cover with an inch layer of sand (this will hold the dirt down). Then allow the top growth of the tuber to come up above the sand a little. If you have koi or goldfish in a pond, maybe zip tie the tuber to a rock inside the pot so they can't dig it up. Slowly submerge in the pond or larger container & sink it at least a foot & up to 3 foot below the surface of the water if you have a deeper pond. During the growing months, fertilize each month with a few aquatic fertilizer tabs pushed down in the soil. The lily will grow fast & will become root bound in the pot in 1 to 2 years (You will repot when this happens; best done when pads are growing in early spring).
