Original & authentic screenprint by Hananiah Harari (American 1912-2000), titled Carnival, created in 1939, unlimited edition on textured paper. Sheet measures 7 7/8" x 9 7/8", & print is 7" x 9". Signed in plate in lower left corner. Strong vivid color, good quality impression. Good condition, has been stored in portfolio, no stains or fading, slight crimp to upper middle, a few light lines in the darker areas, not sure if they are scratches or lines from printing. Sold as is. Harari, born in Rochester NY, changed his name from Richard Falk Goodman to Hananiah Harari, considering it a name more suitable for an "important artist". He studied in Paris with Fernand Leger & Andre Lhote, & on his return to New York, he helped found the American Abstract Artists in 1936. Considered an early Modernist, he combined both Cubism & Surrealism, & his works often had a fanciful & lyrical quality. Also an acclaimed portrait artist, he painted images of the Kennedy, Dupont, Rockefeller, & Mellon families. His works are in permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy of Art.
