A Creeds Toronto (one-time high end clothing store) Souleiado by Charles Deméry maxi skirt. Only the Creeds tag is attached but this pattern is unmistakably Souleiado. It has a very interesting "tail" on the back. Fully lined. Marked size 8, fits like a modern US 2. 25" waist 39" length Wool & angora. Made in France. Souleiado is a Provencal word meaning ''the sun's rays shining through a cloud after the rain'' & the company has been printing fabric for centuries. They are still around & there's even a museum! From a 1985 article in the Chicago Tribune: "All new patterns are created by combining elementsborders, backgrounds, floral clustersfrom a number of the vintage carved & laminated fruitwood blocks in the Souleiado attic, feathered with cobwebs. The company boasts a collection of about 40,000 blocks, the world's largest in private hand" in excellent pre-owned condition.
