Botswana agate stones are a variation of banded chalcedony (part of the quartz family of minerals). Agate minerals form within pre-existing rocks in slow-growing layers, often resulting in alternating bands of chalcedony & crystalline quartz. While some rockology folks believe that agates possess strengthening & stabilizing qualities, the elegant layers of pink & grey actually form an extremely durable stone prized for beautiful cameo & intaglio carving for thousands of years.
