Materials: acrylic paint & metal leaf on canvas print Dimensions: 14 x 8 x 0.75 inches - The original icon depicted on this stretched canvas print was hand-painted by Anna Poloz Icons. It is inspired by the contemporary iconography movement in Lviv, Ukraine, which honors the Byzantine tradition of icon painting while also embracing new interpretations of the icon that focus on the pervasiveness of light & texture. These formal elements express the inner light that radiated from the lives of the saints, chief of which, as we see here, is the Theotokos who protects the world with her protecting veil. The original hand-painted was photographed & printed on stretched canvas as seen here. Acrylic paint & metal leaf were then applied over certain sections of the print to give it a partially hand-painted quality.
