Bessie Coleman FIRST BLACK WOMAN PILOT Sculpted in 2022 Bessie Coleman was an African American aviator who became the first Black woman to hold a pilot's license. Born in Texas in 1892, Coleman was inspired to become a pilot after hearing stories of French airmen during World War I. However, because of racial & gender discrimination, she was unable to receive training in the United States & instead went to France to earn her pilot's license in 1921. After returning to the United States, Coleman established a successful career as a stunt pilot & barnstormer, performing daring aerial tricks & demonstrations to crowds across the country. She faced numerous obstacles & challenges, including racial & gender discrimination, but she continued to fly & inspire others with her passion for aviation. Bessie Coleman is remembered today as a pioneering figure in American aviation & a trailblazer for women & people of color. Her life & accomplishments continue to inspire generations of aviators & advocates for equality & opportunity. All of our statues are HANDMADE. A natural flaw is to be expected. If you have a major issue with your piece, feel free to contact me. I'll be more than happy to work something out. About the Manufacturer: MARBLECast Products, Inc. was established as a full-service manufacturing facility in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1995. Inspired by their Greek heritage, the Karpos family began importing Greek handcrafted souvenirs in 1991, solely for supplying Greek festival gift shops around the United States. However, of all the items imported, the statues were the most popular. After three years of importing, the family began exploring the possibility of manufacturing the statues locally to save on import costs, to control quality & to be able to fulfill orders promptly. Two years of research & development successfully created the unique white bonded marble recipe that is still used today, exclusively. All statues are proudly manufactured & handcrafted in the MARBLECast facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. The proof is seeing it up close. See more of what we do at www.statues.com! Bessie Coleman
