Description

A nice antique framed porcelain plaque or tile featuring a seated German Brewmaster with his tankard of beer on the table next to him along with a candle holder. This early framed plaque is hand painted on porcelain & framed in it's original old dark oak frame. This art work appears to be based on an original oil painting of a German Brewmaster done by German artist Ernestine Friedrichsen (1824-1892). It is very similar with some original details changed or modified. The hand painted porcelain plaque alone measures just under 6" tall by 4" wide. The old oak frame dimensions are 11.5" tall by 9.5" wide by 1" thick. We removed the old wooden backing to examine the plaque for an additional marks & we found an artist signature Laing on the back. There were a few listed artists named Laing who worked in the UK in the late 1800's. Artists Annie Rose Laing (1869-1946) & William Wardlaw Laing both painted in similar styles to this piece. This antique plaque is all original & in the original frame. The old paper backing is removed. A small flat chip was seen on the back of the tile along with some some color residue from the original art work. Some loss to the original finish on the frame is seen in places. A great piece for the Breweriana collector or German porcelain plaque collector. Sold as found.
