This version with all 50 stars representing the official states was first established in 1960, the first July 4th after the addition of Hawaii into the union on August 21, 1959 (Alaska was admitted earlier that year, on January 3rd, & was therefore already represented by a star on the flag for the 1959 version). Perfect for displaying in areas where a fabric flag would be less tenable, such as in a constantly-windy area, or if your Homeowner Association doesn't allow flagpoles in the yards of your neighborhood!
