Description

Something new from the Cave-in-Rock area of Illinois, as limited specimen mining has recently resumed in several of the mines! This specimen is composed of colorless to lilac crystals of fluorite. The largest crystal has a superb cleaved surface allowing a full view to the clear interior. The clarity allows light to penetrate & reflect off of underlying crystals & phantoms which presents some spectacular rainbow prism optical effects. The dark areas are areas of fluorite with hydrocarbon inclusions, & these areas fluoresce a pretty yellow in long wave UV light per the pictures. From the Lead Hill Mines, Lead Hill, Cave-In-Rock Mining Sub-District, Hardin County, Illinois, USA. Measures 2.65 x 2.25 x 1.5 inches.
