Stunning & HEAVY extra high quality amethyst formation from the famed locale of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Amethyst is the purple variation of the mineral quartz (SiO2). Quartz is clear in its pure form, the purple in amethyst is caused by a combination of natural radiation & iron that seeps into the crystal lattice of the growing quartz & alters the chemistry of the atoms. in rare cases such as Thunder Bay amethyst the crystals contain hematite inclusions which can manifest as a spectrum of deep red to pastel orange shades, & can also show as fine black flecks in the crystals. This cluster features amethyst crystals in a beautiful vibrant warm lilac colour, with darker purple phantoms concentrated at the tips. There are spectacular red & black hematite inclusions in confetti-like polka dots. It's especially unusual to see Thunder Bay amethyst in stalactite clusters!
