Description

This is an antique 8th grade graduation class c. 1920 or thereabouts based on the clothing by photographer R. Stollmack of 2631 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, New York. The class has a single African American girl & research shows that Brooklyn schools were desegregated as early the 1880s. These students appear to be well-off so perhaps it was a private school, Three older women sit among the students in the portrait. It is a large format photo & the amount of detail these old photos hold always amazes me, from ribbons on the diplomas to girls' pearl necklaces. It is strange to think this was likely right after WW1 & the Spanish Flu outbreak. It is framed & under glass & the frame is painted to look like tortoiseshell; The frame is chipped but attractive. Measures approximately 15 x 13 inches & has a wire for hanging. I did not unframed this, but it appears to be just the cabinet card stock & glass no other layers. Will be cleaned up for shipping.... old dust makes it easier to phtograph without as much glare. Antique School Photo 8Th Grade Graduation 1920S Brooklyn, New York -Desegregated R.
