Description

This listing is for one 1918-D Mercury Dime, as pictured. AG-F (About Good to Fine) Choose by Grade. "D" mint mark, denoting the Denver Mint. Designed by Adolph Weinman & also referred to as the Winged Liberty Head dime, it gained its common name because the obverse depiction of a young Liberty, identifiable by her winged Phrygian cap, was confused with the Roman god Mercury. Weinman is believed to have used Elsie Stevens, the wife of lawyer & poet Wallace Stevens, as a model. The coin's reverse depicts a fasces, symbolizing unity & strength, & an olive branch, signifying peace. The dime's design was changed in 1946 to feature President Roosevelt on the obverse of the coin who had recently deceased.
