Description
Karl Griesbaum Animated Singing Bird Box & Timepiece. An exceptional gilt brass case with blue & white enamel panels, the sides & back have hand painted round scenic panels; the top of the case has an enameled landscape scene with a couple on the oval lid, to the right two sheep & a house in the distance & a dog is standing in the grass left. A small lever on the face, to the right of the clock lifts the hinged lid on the top & exposes the animated feathered bird which flaps its wings & swivels back & forth while whistling a tune the bottom of the case also has a hidden hinged compartment where the key & instructions can be stored. The case front has a square brass dial signed "Angelus" with applied gilt brass hour numbers & brass bezel; has a spring driven 8 day time only Swiss movement which winds, sets & runs. Case is in excellent condition with no losses to the enamel, time & animated mechanism are working order.
