Circa 1840 an antique Victorian heart-shaped locket charm crafted in 14k yellow gold featuring a beveled-glass covered compartment holding a beautifully woven love-knot of chestnut brown hair. With the pearl surround (likely natural pearls but not tested) set in cut-down collets & the back extravagantly chased in a lush acanthus leaf pattern & "B. Hunter" engraved on a ribbon banner, it's a poignant & rare example of early Victorian mourning jewelry. Measuring approximately 7/8" north to south including the bail but not the jump-ring, & 3/4" east to west. The locket does not open, the glass is set to safely enclose the hair inside the heart. in excellent antique condition. Not marked for gold content but professionally tests to 14k.
