An explanation from our social media accounts: First things first, one of the greatest side effects of chiropractic care is feeling better. Make no mistakes about it! But a chiropractor's job is not designed to chase your pain. Contrary to popular belief, this is for multiple reasons! We surely care, & care deeply about how you feel... but think about this to start with: Your nervous system isn't only concerned with pain. in fact, it's estimated that only twenty percent or so of the nervous system is sensory, or feeling-based! That means most of your nervous system brain, spinal cord, & nerves housed within your spine & body is handling, well, everything else too. Sleeping, digesting, breathing, growing, healing, moving, hearing, protecting, you name it. That's the first reason it's not only about pain! & the second. Sometimes pain isn't what we think it is. For example, when we start a new workout, we can get really sore to start with! & that's not "bad" pain. The same thing often happens when we start a specific & neurologically-based chiropractic plan of care, too! It can be a part of your healing journey. Thirdly, amongst others, pain can be misleading. For example, a painful or numb hand could very well be caused by an issue in the base of your cervical spine, or neck where the nerves start! But if we only went by feeling alone, we could be set thinking about how to "treat" your hand, missing the boat entirely by not addressing the cause.
