2 etchings by Lionel Barrymore (American 1878-1954), one of Purdy's Basin, the other of Venice Courtyard, in perfect condition, have been stored in portfolio, clear impression, good plate impression as well. Measure 12 1/8" x 16 1/8", print area is 7 5/8" x 10 3/4". Signed & titled in plate. On heavy paper with slight creamy tint. Very good condition, margins intact, no stains or tears, Venice has a crimped corner in upper left, both have a bit of paper stuck to back at top, where they were attached to something else. They are sold together, neither is available separately. Price listed is for both etchings. Lionel Barrymore is known primarily as an accomplished actor, but he was also an artist, having studied in Paris & was a member of the Art Students League in New York City. He had a strong interest in nautical scenes, as well as other landscapes from his travels. The etching of Purdy's Basin depicts an artist at work, & it is possibly a self portrait.
