It is typically yellow in color but can range from brown to orange or red. Amber is graded by color, clarity, rarity of inclusions (popularized by Jurassic Park), hardness, color of fluorescence, & sometimes locality. Many ambers fluoresce green or blue under ultraviolet light, giving added appeal & value! Amber is unique in that it has optical features on the surface of the stone, aka fluorescence, & also desirable details on the inside of the stone (inclusions, patterns, etc). Copal is young amber that does not have the same durability.
