Description

A hypersonic wind tunnel model that has the distinct tapered nose cone of a hypersonic vehicle with added fins. Most likely an early re-entry vehicle design used for testing & the tip of the nose cone comes off for adapting various shapes for study. Precision machined steel to exacting specs & fits the same size type of model for the small hypersonic testing chamber. What makes this particular model special is that is came from the estate of Werner Karl Dahm : ... ' Chief of the Aerophysics Division at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center until 1992, when he became Chief Aerodynamicist at the NASA Center. He was awarded the AIAAAerodynamics Award in 1997 for his exceptional lifetime contributions to the aerodynamic design & analysis of strategic missiles & manned/unmanned launch rockets, & received the NASA Exceptional Service Medal in 2003. He continued working in science positions at NASA until his retirement, at 89, in 2006.' So much history with Mr. Dahm as he was one of the original key figures that started the NASA program under Wernher von Braun & previously an early spaceflight scientist of the Peenemünde Future Projects Office who emigrated to the US under Operation Paperclip & was the Marshall Space Flight Center Chief Aerodynamicist. One of the most significant wind tunnel models that I have acquired to date. Measures: 7" long on a custom museum base 12.5" H when mounted Last photo shows other models available listed separately Nasa Hypersonic Wind Tunnel Re-Entry Vehicle Model C.1950 Werner Karl Dahm Estate
