Description

Original painting of Ukita Ikkei (1795-1859), a significant figure in the revival of yamato-e painting, a revered Japanese form of court painting. He was also the master of waka poems & calligraphy. Ukita Ikkei was captured & imprisoned in Ansei Purge & died shortly after he was released from prison when he was 65 years old. The artist's signature & red stamp seal are on the lower right. Sugawara no Michizane (845-903) was a scholar, poet, & politician of the Heian Period of Japan. He is regarded as an excellent poet, particularly in Kanshi poetry, & is today revered in Shinto as the god of learning, Tenjin. Size The painting 92 cm x 29 cm Total length 174 cm x 41 cm Condition There is a little damage in the upper part of the scroll. Please see the photos for details.
