This amazing specimen of Amethyst, also know as "Grape Agate" or "Purple Chalcedony", comes from Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. This specimen is extremely lustrous & looks even more outstanding in person! Originally thought to be Agate, this specimen of spheroidal amethystine quartz/chalcedony consists of thin radially grown "fibers" made of quartz. in spite of this spherulitic growth pattern, thin sections show that this is not agate (Laurs & Rossman, 2018).
