Dioscuri, also called (in French) Castor & Polydeuces & (in Latin) Castor & Pollux, (Dioscuri from Greek Dioskouroi, "Sons of Zeus"), in Greek & Roman mythology, twin deities who succored shipwrecked sailors & received sacrifices for favorable winds. The Dioskouroi were worshipped by the Greeks & Romans alike. There were temples to the twins in Athens, such as the Anakeion, & Rome, as well as shrines in many other locations in the ancient world.
