Description

A gorgeous box is decorated with a Fruit Tree & a gold Swallow, as well as, a gold Nashiji Lacquer finish. This wonderful collectible was purchased at the 1905 St. Louis World's Fair. It was made in Shizuoka, Japan. The top is decorated with a fruit tree, most likely plum, a gold nashiji lacquer finish & a beautiful gold swallow with intricate detailing on a deep red background. The swallow is a symbol of good luck & fidelity in marriage in Japan. The box interior is finished with gold nashiji lacquer which are flakes of gold sprinkled in an amber toned lacquer. The box interior is divided see photo. The bottom is stamped "Shizuoka Japan" & has an original Japanese sticker. There is a raised stylized cloud pattern across the bottom. The corners are constructed with traditional box joints. There is a note from the owner included describing the purchase of the box at the 1905 St. Louis World's Fair. A collectible box that will be treasured for generations. Dimensions: 7 1/4" L. x 3 3/4" W. x 1 1/2" Ht. The box has a decorative metal latch lock in good working order & hinged closures.
