AROID CARE TIPS: MEDIUM & HUMIDITY Aroids generally prefer a well-draining but moisture-retentive medium that provides a balance of aeration, water retention, & nutrients. Here are some commonly used mediums that work well for aroids: Peat-based Mix: A peat-based mix, often combined with perlite or orchid bark, is a popular choice for aroids. Peat moss provides good water retention, while perlite or orchid bark helps improve drainage & aeration. Coco Coir: Coco coir, made from coconut husks, is an alternative to peat moss. It has good water retention, promotes root aeration, & is more sustainable than peat moss. Orchid Mix: Orchid mixes consisting of bark, perlite, & sphagnum moss can be suitable for certain aroids. They provide excellent drainage while allowing airflow around the roots. Vermiculite & Perlite Mix: A mixture of vermiculite & perlite can be used as a lightweight & well-draining medium. This mix allows for good aeration & prevents the medium from becoming too compacted. Soilless Mix: Soilless mixes, such as those made with a combination of peat moss, perlite, vermiculite, and/or coco coir, are widely used for aroids. They provide good drainage & aeration while retaining moisture. Additionally, regular watering, appropriate lighting, & suitable temperature & humidity levels are also essential factors for the overall well-being of aroids. Ideal Ideal Humidity Levels: Most aroids thrive in humidity levels between 60% & 80%. However, they can tolerate lower humidity levels if other care conditions are optimal.
