Description

This is for the Single Scarlet Poppies This poppy produces a very deep scarlet red poppy that grows 24 to 30 inches in height. The petals are mostly fringed, but some may produce a single petal flower up to 4 inches across. The deep red color of the flower against the bluish-green foliage makes this a stunning flower. Plant in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked to get some early summer flowers. Seed directly in the ground in spring or fall & will germinate best at temperatures between 50F - 65F (10C - 18C) . I prefer to sow directly on loose soil & not planted & kept moist. Germination takes two to three weeks. You may thin them about a foot apart. Once setup the poppies take care of themselves & need little water. Give them full sun to part shade. Most are annuals, however they will also self seed every year so it can be treated like a perennial of sorts. Once the flower has died a large seed bulb will develop. When dried you can harvest the seeds. Lifecycle: Annual (pseudo perennial / self seeding) Size: 2-3' in height & 10" in width Sun: Full sun Soil: Rich, moist, well-drained Season: Spring to summer Seed to Bloom: ~14 weeks Single Scarlet Poppies Seeds
