Description: A very unique antique Sterling Silver & gold mourning cross shaped pendant necklace. The medallion pendant has an intricate etched front with a round (low karat) gold piece in the center monogrammed with the cursive initials JD. The back has a memorial dedication engraved that states "To J Delee in Remembrance of M. F. Dwayne". Below that at the bottom are two stamped hallmarks that say CORK & EGAN. The hallmarks indicate it was made in Cork, Ireland by Egans of Cork. NOTE: William Egan & Sons produced silver in Cork, Ireland since the 1820s until 1986. The company made many fine hand wrought silver items which still can be seen in churches & in homes all around the country. The bale is a large round loop that is used to attach the sturdy flat S link Sterling Silver chain. The chain closes with a lobster clasp. Measures: Chain: 16" long Pendant: 1 1/2" long x 1 1/2" wide Gold round with the monogram JD in the center has a 5/8" diameter Weights: 19.6 grams (pendant with chain) pendant alone - 13.5 grams chain alone - 6.1 grams Condition: This commemorative pendant is in fair to nice antique condition with light patina & wear commensurate with age - late 1800s to early 1900s.
