Description

Rare French Antique Relic/Reliquary - remains of the wooden building which was destroyed, Turkey in 1873. A little lable covers these carefully arranged remains, above which a colorized paper sacred heart is affixed. This is in cased by glass & a black lacquer oval frame. Saray is not a French word, nor is it a French town or place. in fact, it is Turkish. The date of 1873 corresponds to the Russian invasion of Turkey (Ottoman Empire) at the time, where many religious buildings, both Christian & Muslim were destroyed in this war. It can be deduced for sure, due to the date of 1873, & the pieces of wood placed carefully inside this little case, that this is a reliquary of the destruction of palaces, or religious buildings in the former Ottoman lands in 1873. Due to the sacred heart with a cross, we can be sure that the building was a Christian church. Oval frame measures approx 4" tall by 3" across. It is a little under 1" thick. It has not been opened as you can see from the black paper on the back & so there is clouding under the glass & a little residue. We happily ship internationally.
