Large Statement Piece by Designer Miriam Haskell. This fabulous necklace & pendant are constructed of faux tortoise shell & brass filigree findings. The pendant is made up of large flat coin shaped beads accented with open work filigree "leaves" & a central filigree flower. The pendant is very large at 4 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide. The back of the pendant has the traditional Miriam Haskell backing disk. It is stamped with the Haskell signature. The beads on the necklace are a combination of round & coin shaped with tiny brass spacers. The coin shaped beads are embellished with brass filigree wraps. The beads are strung on silk thread. There is one spot on the necklace where the thread is exposedthis looks like an easy fix but I wasn't brave enough to try. The necklace is 20 inches long. The closure is a fancy box clasp. It works well. The clasp has the Miriam Haskell stamp as well. This necklace is in excellent condition. I see no concerns other than the visible thread mentioned above. Free insured shipping in USA. Concerning the one of a kind, hand-made nature of Haskell jewelry: While many of the components were die-stamped metal, including filigree backings used extensively from the late 1940s on, each piece displays hand-manipulated construction whether in an intricate necklace centerpiece or a bracelet clasp. Individual components were wired together by hand & the backings hid the evidence beautifully so that each piece appears nicely finished on the reverse. Haskell beaded necklaces were also made using a technique called back stringing giving them a quality touch above other strands of beads. I try my very best to only list items that are in great condition. But, it's important to remember that most vintage items have been used, so they are rarely perfect.
