Vintage Chinese Yi Xing Glazed Ceramic Tea Pot. A beautiful Tea Pot made in China from traditional red clay in the Yi Xing Style. This tea pot has been glazed in a beautiful turquoise blue glaze, very diminutive however it looks incredibly elegant. The inside of this lovely pot is the unglazed traditional Yi Xing red clay. The pot has strainer holes at the spout opening inside to help strain loose leaf tea when pouring. This teapot measures approximately 4" inches tall, about 6" inches from handle to spout & 4" inches in diameter. It is in nice vintage condition, although there is a tiny chip on the inside & outside of the lid (see photograph), it also does have a Chinese character signature pressed into the base of the tea pot. The clay used to make these Yi Xing tea pots comes from the eastern province of Jiangsu, China, where the clay has a particularly high iron content giving the clay its reddish brown or often purplish appearance. A wonderful piece of Chinese tea ware which would be traditionally used for green tea but could be used for any color or style, white, black, oolong or even herbal tisanes. It will eventually absorb the flavors of the teas used, however this is akin to the seasoning of a cast iron pot.
