DESCRIPTION: This lovely small bronze is signed G.V. Vaerenbergh (1873-1927). It was created during the late 19th century romantic period. in our view, it represents a peasant woman dressed in revolution clothing. Although one would expect a form of combative posture in the woman, not unlike the one leading the people on the barricades in DELACROIx's famous painting, her face displays softness & kindness. She is shown tilting her head gently. in spite of the small size of the bronze (5 3/4") she projects a reassuring presence something that cancels out her revolutionary-like clothing. She is just lovely & in excellent condition. Our images are not photoshopped. So, any spots, white or cloudy marks on the photo is glare and/or photographic obstructions.
