Description
A very pretty, antique, Valentine's Day three dimensional greeting card featuring a boy whispering to a little girl holding a heart-shaped floral wreath. When the card is folded down, they are standing in front of what appears to Victrola horn & another machine (telephone maybe?). The background layer features blue flowers accenting limey-yellow colums. There is a lovebird flying on this background layer as well as a tiny lime yellow ribbon that has been added with a small pin. I am not sure if the ribbon accent is original, but it certainly has been there for some time. CONDITION: This antique Valentine is in very good vintage condition. The card stands as it should, but leans slightly forward. There doesn't appear to be any repairs to the paper or the paper mechanism that allows the card to slide into shape. There is writing in pencil on the back of the card: "to grandma & grandpa from "Bertha" George." There is "#7" written in pencil near the bottom left. It looks like the very top layer of paper on the back has been removed in some places. The lime-yellow ribbon is attached with a very small pin. I do not see any rust around the pin. The paper is in very good shape overall. I do see one flower near the top of the background layer has seperated & there is a small bend/crease to the paper in the upper right - hand corner. The honeycomb in the front is in good condition. The message/poem on the bottom of the card reads: "To My Valentine When you receive my Valentine Please read its message true, It means I give myself away To no one else by you." HISTORY: I received a whole box of antique & vintage valentines from a family member. Most of these belonged to my great aunt & she was born in the early 1900's. I would date these around 1908-1915.
