It is a soft tinsel-like fabric ribbon woven similarly to velvet. It will not irritate your pet or leave a mess. Breakaway (i.e. "safety / quick release") buckles are the most common type found on cat collars & are designed to auto-release if tugged on with a certain amount of force, to ensure an emergency 'getaway' if your pet is caught on something. ► NON-Breakaway buckles DO NOT auto-release. The only way to open them is to pinch the side releases to unclasp the buckle. This is the most common type used for dog collars. ► Please do NOT order a breakaway collar if you plan to walk your pet on a leash with the same collar get the non-breakaway option if this is the case (whether for a dog or cat). SUBSTITUTION REQUESTS We can accommodate requests for hardware color & buckle color changes free of charge.
