Description
This is an antique (possibly late 1880s), hand-carved, MOP, Abalone shell, Chinese, wall plaque. It measures approximately 1/2 inch thick by 7.75 inches wide by 7.25 inches in height. The front is slightly concave in shape with pierced cut-outs featuring a traditional, Chinese scene of a Sampan/Junk boat on the Yangtze River in China propelled by a man in a coolie hat with a commonly used pole. Behind the boat is a Gingko tree & the mountainous landscape of China. in front of the boat is the Yangtze River-way which is shown textured completely in ripples. The backside is smooth. The mother-of-pearl glows beautifully throughout the plaque. This perhaps originally came with a stand to display on a table, but I affixed a wire to the back years ago for hanging as that is how I had it displayed. The wire could easily be removed. This rare, Mother-of-pearl, Chinese-art piece is in excellent condition. Please be sure before purchasing as this item is NOT returnable. A signature will be required upon time of delivery.
