With our highest compliments & utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques proudly presents for sale this exceptional early 19th century antique Tiger Maple butlers desk. The uppermost drawer that houses the desk has a beautiful Walnut face with a Tiger Maple border around the edge. The interior has 6 Tiger Maple drawers with two concealed vertical letter drawers & a Mahogany valence door that works on a pivoting mechanism. When the center door is opened there's an interior Poplar box with a Birds Eye Maple drawer at the bottom & the entire box can be pulled out to reveal a hidden compartment in the back of the box. The bottom 3 drawers have bold grain Tiger Maple faces & the vertical stiles have the grain orientated perpendicular to the faces. Many of these started their lives with wood knobs & were upgraded to more decorative options as they became available in the mid 20th century. This desk has nice embossed brass pulls with thistle designs. The bottom left pull is a little loose & sags a tiny bit but it's hardly noticeable & still in good condition capable of everyday use. The desk measures 41 1/4" wide x 21 1/2" deep x 47 1/4" tall.
