Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly - Vintage Glass Slide - from the Western State Normal College Department of Biology - later became Western Michigan University. Size is 3 1/4" x 4" From a series of these glass lantern slides would be projected during a lecture - like a modern video does today. Being made of glass & fragile few survive today. Most were very simple black & white drawings - this is a rare illustration that was hand colored.
