Description

A couple months ago I was contacted by an Audubon Society near Houston Texas & was asked if I could make 20 walking sticks that the organization could present to the people who contributed the most last year to their organization. At first they asked if they could get a better price if they ordered a large number of sticks like that. I reminded them that the sticks are all done by hand & that there are no economies of scale. That I can't make them two or three at a time. But I did give them a better price once we agreed on the art work. I got them to simplify the design to three birds & their logo & the name of their chapter at the top of each stick. They gave me nearly three months to complete the order. So I did five sticks at a time & shipped them in bundles which saves on freight. I ordered the logo for Audubon in a branding iron that made the artwork for the logo more consistent. & I ordered blank aspen wood sticks that made the process easier too. The three birds were an American Kestrel, a Barred Own & a Painted Bunting: one of the most beautiful birds I have ever drawn! They wanted Flowering Dogwood in which I perched the Painted Bunting bird. It has been a privilege to work with the Audubon Society. I love birds & animals & love making walking sticks.
