Often with our 2" pots of orchids such as, but not limited to, Cattleyas when we pot them up we take the 2" pot & put it into the next size up & fill it with medium. in our conditions & with our watering schedule this works really well, as the plants can grow up to the next size without any problems. If you feel this does not suit your wants, please be advised that it's what we do here. We do not, however make a habit of doing this with plants other than epiphytic orchids.
