It depicts a young discus thrower shortly before throwing the disc. The original bronze work has been lost since antiquity. The statue, however, is known to us from its Roman marble copies but also from Lucian's descriptions. Lucian's descriptions do not differentiate the bronze original of the classical times from the marble Roman copies. Although characterized by free movement, the work retains some archaic elements such as being two-dimensional (with the main one facing the front). The aim of the project is to highlight the intensity of the moment, while the serene face emphasizes the athlete's self-concentration. The trunk of the tree (support) was later added to the copies for static reasons. We know that the Discus was built around the 5th century BC. There is also particular doubt as to where his gaze has turned. Many people claim that he looks at his record, some believe that he looks at the audience, & others that it helps him in terms of form & self-concentration. A similar sculptural representation of a discus thrower is the discus thrower of Nafkidis. There are few copies of the original statue & they are still in various museums in Europe, such as the British Museum, the Vatican Museum, the Munich Sculpture Gallery, & the National Roman Museum. in 1964, another copy of Myron's Discus was discovered in Ampelokipi, Athens. This particular statue is a miniature & dates from the 1st century BC. It now belongs to the collection of the National Archaeological Museum.
