Inferno, Canto 28 Tormentors of Discord & Schism the Mutilated Shade of Mahomet While I was all absorbed in seeing him, He looked at me, & opened with his hands His bosom, saying: "See now how I rend me; How mutilated, see, is Mahomet; in front of me doth Ali weeping go, Cleft in the face from forelock unto chin; & all the others whom thou here beholdest, Disseminators of scandal & of schism While living were, & therefore are cleft thus." - Paul Gustave Doré 1832 - 1883 was a French artist, engraver, illustrator & sculptor. Doré worked primarily with wood engraving & steel engraving. This original 9" x 13" reprint from Italy is from 1939. It's printed on quality paper & is in lovely condition. It's tanned just a tiny bit to a light ecru color (think vanilla ice cream) & it's blank on the reverse side. 'Tormentors of Discord' would be simply fabulous matted in a bright color & framed in either black or gold. Matted, framed & displayed as a gallery grouping, these fabulous black & white vintage book prints are simply spectacular.
