Description

A massive decorated pottery bowl made by studio potter Mark Chamberlain who worked in Iowa & Florida. He operated a pottery gallery with Teresa Bowen in New Smyrna Beach Florida until his passing in 1998. The gallery remains open to this day under Teresa's ownership. This large hand thrown pottery bowl is glazed in a black matt under glaze with a free form surface decoration done in tones of pink, pale blue, foamy teal green & jet black. The surface appears to resemble the solar system design with three hand decorated planets in the center made of multiple glaze colors with random rings decorated around the inner side edges. Rows of random dots are seen on the surface in dark colors to resemble stars it appears. The underside is glazed in a solid black color. It measures 17.25" wide by 3.75" tall at the rim. The base is signed Chamberlain & dated 94. The condition is nice & original on this studio pottery bowl. It came with a business card from his pottery gallery attached. A great piece for your Iowa or Florida studio pottery collection.
