By the time I was fifteen, I had read "The Herb Book" by John Lust cover to cover twice with all of the aromatic descriptions committed to memory & imagination. Khus was an aromatic root I daydreamed about & it frustrated me that the oil was not available in rural 1980's Canada. It was published as Khus -Khus, which is actually an oil seed from the Poppy plant & not Vetiver which added to a little confusion when I was finally able to buy the rich, heavy scented essential oil. Our emerald colored Vetiver is distilled in Northern India where it is considered superior due to a twenty four hour distillation & lower yield. As a distiller myself, I have a lot of respect & gratitude for those who distill that length of time as I'm all in at five to six hours tops. Separating the oil from hydrosol is also very challenging so I feel rather fortunate to have it in our hydro collection as well. Wild Green Vetiver is a rare essential oil with some very unique scent notes to it. I pick up green cucumber which may sound odd, but I like the chypre note it offers. This vetiver also offers less of a heavy base note to compositions which can really allow for the addition of more essential oils when building an accord. I also smell a little floralness I expect are from the vetiver flowers. Wild, green & a little floral sounds like the makings of my soul.
