Description

Sale: Was $95.00, now $64.99: Set of 5 very fine quality French SFAM silverplated dinner knives in a Baroque Rococo Louis XV style. These knives would enhance any dining table. The handles are silverplated & the blades are what the French refer to as "inoxydable" or stainless steel. Trademarks on the bolsters front & back. The blades are marked 'SFAM Inox'. Each piece is silvered to the highest French legal standard, guaranteed by the square hallmark. I believe one of the marks indicates '15 gr'. Circa 1900-1919 The approximate dimensions are as follows: 10 1/4 inches long Beautifully shaped blade with a beveled edge on one side. Condition: Patina commensurate with age & usage - some surface scratches on the blades & 2 minuscules spots of corrosion - please see photos. No monograms. The company started operations in 1894, in Chambly, France & later took on the name of the town. Before that happened it was known as S.F.A.M. Standing for "Ste Francaise d'Alliages des Metaux." To this day, Chambly is still the leading French manufacturer of silverware & it is the only French manufacturer that produces its own nickle silver alloy for silver plate. These knives were probably made in the early 20th Century. I cannot place the pattern, however it would complement the Rubans pattern from Ercuis or Christofle's popular Marly pattern. in the Louis XV style, it is beautifully decorated on both sides, weighty & have a nice well-balanced feel to them. Pattern is a lovely one of acanthus & laurel leaves. Sale Set Of Five Fine Quality Antique French Sfam Silversmiths Silver Plate 10 1/4" Dinner Knives No Monogram Turn The Century
