Description

Beautiful example of this new discovery from the Congo! This piece consists of a matrix of light brown sandstone with one large vug filled with sky blue Hemimorphite (Zn₄(OH)₂H₂O), & measures approximately 6.4 cm by 3.8 cm by 3.2 cm, & is 100 percent mesmerizing. I kinda want to eat it with the expectation that it will taste like cotton candy, but I suspect that all I will get out of the experience is a dental bill & possibly a colonoscopy. Anyway, as with all the pieces I take photographs of, it looks even nicer in person. Ignore the trampoline in the background of the pictures. That isn't part of the sale. But it could be I guess. Let's talk about it. Hemimorphite is a sorosilicate mineral which has been historically mined from the upper parts of zinc & lead ores, chiefly associated with smithsonite, ZnCO3. They were assumed to be the same mineral & both were classed under the same name of calamine. in the second half of the 18th century it was discovered that these two different minerals were both present in calamine. They closely resemble each other. The silicate was the rarer of the two, & was named hemimorphite, because of the hemimorph development of its crystals. This unusual form, which is typical of only a few minerals, means that the crystals are terminated by dissimilar faces. Hemimorphite most commonly forms crystalline crusts & layers, also massive, granular, rounded & reniform aggregates, concentrically striated, or finely needle-shaped, fibrous or stalactitic, & rarely fan-shaped clusters of crystals. From a metaphysical standpoint, this stone brings positive vibrations full of joy, happiness, & uplifting energy. 2.5-Inch Sky-Blue Hemimorphite - Palabanda, M'fouati District, Bouenza Department, Republic Of Congo | Brazzaville
