Description
Mary Cassatt was an American painter & printmaker born in 1844. She was born in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania (now part of Pittsburgh's North Side), but lived much of her adult life in France, where she first befriended Edgar Degas & later exhibited among the Impressionists. She lived most of her adult life in France & died there in 1926. The painting that this postcard is a print of was produced circa 1894. I haven't seen much of Cassatt's work, but I am always drawn to her paintings. I think that this painting is displayed in Musée d'Orsay, Paris but it may have been part of an American exhibition of course.
