This is a curated antique Robert E. Lee poster stamp bearing an image of Lee & bearing the inscription " This is America...and I Am Proud I Am an American!" The poster stamp first originated in England in 1864 as a letter adornment & eventually spread to the US & other European countries. For a time, the "poster stamp" was a stamp imprinted with the design of a poster that won an award in a poster contest. Eventually poster stamps gained wide use in commercial advertising until their gradual demise in the 1940s. Probable vintage is 1930s. The poster stamp is in excellent condition. Comes in a 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 rustic-style easel-back frame with 1-color mat & attached triangle hanger for wall mounting. For the old school W & L graduate and/or Civil War history buff.
